You'll never be alone
When darkness comes I'll light the night with stars
Hear my whispers in the dark

Megan had somehow managed to escape from the "party" her parents were throwing for her coming home from boarding school. She knew her mother wasn't actually happy at all with the decision, but she could never pass up a chance for social networking. There wasn't a person there who was Megan's age. They were either family members, member's of her mother's company, or members of a company her mother was doing a business deal with. If it hadn't been directly stated to her that the party was for her, she wouldn't even have known it. The only clues she would have had to it was that her father had bought her a new dress to wear for it, and the guests spent about the first five minutes making comments on how well Megan was growing up.

What Megan really wanted to do was walk around Eventide and see the sights, especially the waterfall. It seemed like she had been gone for so long. Her mother hadn't even allowed her to come home during Christmas, and Megan had spent her last summer sightseeing with her friends in Europe. It was thrilling to see a new place, but nothing could ever compare to the beauty of Eventide with its breathtaking landscape. Megan sighed. She probably wouldn't be missed from her mother's party, but she didn't want to take chances. It was only her second week being back home, and if she upset her mother the chances were that when summer was ended she would be back in England again.

Instead she would take a walk down the street and around the valley. It would be easy to make up an excuse for that. Megan simply needed some fresh air and a break from the party because she had started to feel sick. Elizabeth probably still wouldn't be happy if she noticed her daughter had suddenly gone missing, but she would have to accept it. Megan admired all of the mansions as she walked down the road. Their simplicity was beautiful in an odd sort of way, like the simplicity of everything else here in Eventide. Megan possibly liked the outside of most of the houses more than the insides of them. They seemed to fit in nicely with the scenery of the valley, while on the inside the mansions were elaborately decorated to an almost sickening extent. Megan couldn't deny that she enjoyed the luxury, but when she compared it to the apartments and houses it seemed like it was an unfair privilege.

The sun was setting, casting off rays of every color. At the end of the street Megan stopped to enjoy the sight. The sunset inspired her and begged to be painted, but it would have to wait until another time. These were the moments Megan lived for.

God, why did life have to be such a drag?

Even with the many charms and intensities of his own miserable life, Simon was bored as hell. That was probably why he sat outside of his family's house for the longest time, holding a cigarette butt to his lips and blowing out a few puffs of smoke. No, sorry to disappoint you, Simon Hayes was not addicted to the stuff, it was just something he did from time to time, occasionally on weekends or when life was too damn uninteresting for him to handle that day. Blonde hair was messy atop his head, as it usually was, curly and attractive in every dimension, emphasizing a pair of blue eyes that sat beneath them. As a joke, quite a few of his friends called him 'the Nazi' because of this, but he didn't mind. It wouldn't be too much longer before they were going their separate ways anyway, and the girls seemed to love it.

He started walking then, taking one last whiff of the cigar before dumping it off in the trashcan on the side of the street. His foster parents wouldn't mind; they didn't usually mind when he was quiet or untalkitive, which he appreciated above all else. He stuffed his hands into the pockets of his shorts, brand new from American Eagle, along with the navy polo that accented a well-toned body, he must admit. He shook his head, letting his hair sway in front of his eyes as he walked, and watched his feet as he scuffed them across the street before he finally caught sight of...someone...up ahead. From his glance, he saw the pretty features and hairstylings of a female, so instantly, he was attuned.

With a charming smirk that was his trademark, he quickly walked after her, following her, and sure enough, it was a girl. A girl he'd seen around, usually swarmed with those who sought out the 'populars' of the school, but since he'd graduated, he wasn't really too worried. However, as he finally drew himself closer, he noticed that she was indeed a pretty thing. Ah, finally something to do. He'd play with her at first; he didn't like to use force unless it was necessary. Most girls were teases, anyway.

And so at last, he drew himself right up next to her, sliding in to stand just beside her, and he looked down at her warmly, the smirk that was his only copyright spreading across his gorgeously handsome face. "And who might you be?" he said, alluringly as always, with his voice serving the right purpose as it was. The sunset sprayed colors of reds and shades of other colors into his blonde hair, no doubt alluring to her, but he hardly noticed. He didn't really have to anymore; he knew he was gorgeous.

Megan was paying so much attention to the scenery of the valley that she didn't hear the sound of footsteps behind her. Either that or he walked quietly. When Megan heard the alluring voice her hazel eyes snapped to the place where a head would be if she wasn't five feet tall. Instead she got a view of whoever was taking to her's polo shirt. Her eyes slid upward toward his face, taking in the sight of his muscles along the way. Well, wasn't he an eyeful. She recognized the face she saw and was frustrated when she couldn't remember a name as well. It was not hard for anyone to recognize another person here in Eventide, but it was especially easy for Megan because of her ability. How could she not remember someone as gorgeous as this? She could remember seeing those bright blue eyes in passing, but she had never paid much attention to the person they belonged to. Megan usually depended on her enhanced memory for everything, and was disappointed when she couldn't remember something as simple as a name.

Seeing his casual clothes brought Megan's mind to what she was wearing. She looked down for a split second. Of course she hadn't changed before sneaking out of her house. Her elaborate, mostly sheer Valentino...creation... complete with tan gloves that went over her elbows would stand out a hundred miles away in a town like Eventide. She almost groaned. Toning down her clothes enough that they looked somewhat passable for a small town was something that she attempted to do often, and usually failed at. And now she was parading through the town in a designer dress. She could practically hear what people would say about her already. She was sure she had a reputation for being stuck-up, and this would not help it.

Megan turned her eyes back to the person next to her. He looked too perfect with the sunset in the background. How could someone be allowed to look this perfect? Megan Hálfdan, and you? Her smile could be described more as cheery than as flirty, putting more emphasis on the features of her beautiful face. The smile was in fact one that Megan had practiced in the mirror more times than she would care to remember. The expression had been forced at first, but now came up naturally from her deliberate use of it. Megan was definitely not shy, and she was glad for the chance to talk to someone who was not one of her parents' friends, as she had been forced to for the last few hours. Even if the first person she saw did not look this insanely good, she probably still would have struck up a conversation with them.

Ah, she was rich. That was a bonus for her, he was sure. Good looks and big money...what a combination, right? It was obvious by her clothes and the way she held herself that her parents were in the big time, and it was only clarrified when she mentioned her name. Yep, the Halfdans were a huge family...big bucks, big house, you name it. He was pretty sure, now that Simon thought about it, that he had seen her around before. Probably just wandering the streets aimlessly or buying jewelry in stores Simon never cared to enter, but he couldn't be sure. Girls were a faded genre in his scope of mind. However, the ladies were the only ones who didn't seem to know that. Nor did many of them know that he was in fact, a virgin.

The one thing about him that was what some might consider, 'holy.'

But of course, he was the incandescent charmer, sometimes obliviously, sometimes not. So he could never say something mean to a girl unless it held perverted context or was someone he was truly uninterested in. "Simon. It's nice to finally know your name," he said, giving a nod, making his blonde bangs flash scopily, its normal messy disarray a sight for sore eyes in this light. He nodded, looking out towards the canyons, still keeping his smallish ability to himself before he blew through his lips, something he did from time to time, slowly rocking back and forth on his heels. Simon wasn't normally a 'patient' person, so it was no joking here, right? And scenery...it was pretty to him...for about two seconds.

What could he say? It was the same way with art, in museums, the whole shabang. He was very blunt, and not afraid to show it. "So...why are you here?" he asks, cocking his head at her far too alluringly for his own good. The lights cast defined shadows along his cheekbones and jawline, and he let the trademark smirk that caught his lips on one side spread across his face. Some would describe it as, 'impish', like a kid whose been caught doing something he shouldn't and is acting innocent. Yep, that's the infamous smirk for you.

Megan was again disappointed when he didn't give his last name. Of course, most people didn't when they introduced themselves, but she had been hoping that she could figure out more about this mysterious person. She might have been able to recall something she had heard about whoever his family was. Her parents were not concerned with the members of lower classes. Except for the ones who had abilities, who they were terrified of. But the maid liked to gossip about the various non-Heritage families that resided in Eventide, which sometimes proved to be useful.

So...why are you here? Simon smirked, cocking his head, and Megan felt like she died a bit inside. She averted her eyes for a second before looking back at him, half-expecting to see someone uglier in his place. Nope. So she wasn't just imagining gorgeous guy in front of her. Unless she was delusional, which hopefully she could rule out. I'm escaping from my 'party' Megan said, rolling her eyes. She gestured vaguely towards her house. But I don't need an excuse. I only live like three streets away. Why are you here? The same bright smile lit up her face.

The sun setting was quickly on its way to being night. It would still be some time before the sunset finished its course, but lights on the road and on houses were beginning to turn on. Megan kicked off her stilettos and carried them by the straps so that they were dangling in her hands. They gave her more height, but God did they hurt. She preferred being barefoot than wearing shoes any day, and she often was, to her parents' distaste. Her toenails were painted neatly, but the bottoms of her feet were hardened from walking on so often. She could walk over all but the sharpest of stones without flinching.

Megan also loosed her hair so that it fell in dark brown curls past her shoulders. She pulled off her gloves and carried them in the same hand she carried her heels in. Megan was worn out from standing and talking to people she cared less about all day. And though the dress would still draw attention, it wouldn't get as much as her wearing her full outfit.

Well, at least he wouldn't have to worry about having to force her to be charmed; Simon could tell every time that her eyes came to rest on him, they were...mesmerized. What could he say? He may not have the money of a lot of folks around here, but he sure could kick them in the butt as far as looks went. He wasn't afraid to admit that; in fact, he'd have it no other way. How do you think he got his gift in the first place? He had a theory going that your abilities had a lot to do with how your persona was, but since he didn't know too many people yet who actually had 'abilities,' he wasn't too outgoing with the whole topic for fear that someone would finally send him to a psychoward.

As she unbound her hair, carrying half her clothesline in one hand as she walked, he couldn't help but laugh at the sight. It's kind of funny, seeing this up class girl walking around barefoot in a dress that probably cost a fortune with her hair rolling down across two delicate shoulderblades. It was something he had not seen before, and it was quite amusing in Simon's personal opinion. He shook his head, his hair going with as he smirked again, that heart-wrenching smirk. "First you have to explain why an obviously high class girl wants to skip out on what I'm sure is a party that many of us middle class hobos would kill to go to." He winked, then laughed, revealing a row of stunning white teeth.

He was still walking, rather slowly for him, but walking nonetheless. He rolled his shoulders back beneath the fabric of his tee shirt, stretching them as his eyes scanned elsewhere, trying to guess at what her house was...and failing miserably, sadly enough. Of course, there was nothing wrong with trying, but it was rather difficult, moreso than he had instantly assumed. Because all of them were looking about the same after a while.

Megan let out a laugh at Simon's next words. You're sadly mistaken. I can't think of a single person who would want to waste their time their. It's the farthest thing away from a real party. Someone would have to be crazy to actually want to stand there and answer the same questions over and over again. It was fine for the first few minutes when everyone would give her compliments on how smart or how pretty she was. Megan couldn't lie; she enjoyed compliments maybe a little more than she she should. She sometimes even went out of her way to get them. Other people's approval was a close second to her mother's, and helped get rid of her insecurities of not being good enough.

When Simon laughed, Megan couldn't help but glance at his teeth. It was something that she always noticed about people, she couldn't explain why. She couldn't stand when people had braces or yellowed teeth. She found the thought of someone not brushing their teeth or having hunks of metal stuck on them as disgusting. Her own teeth were pearly white and straight, thank you. And somehow it didn't seem to surprise her when Simon's were as well. Did the perfection ever end? Of course, there was personality to think of too, not just looks, but at the moment she couldn't seem to find any fault in that, either.

Megan noticed Simon looking off into the distance, almost like he was looking for something. She tilted her head to the side and tried to see what he was looking at, the only possible thing being the large, similar houses. What are you looking at? If he really was looking at the houses, she couldn't imagine why. They were boring, and really nothing to look at. You would think that some of the families would at least hire a landscaper, or put a pool in. Something to make it worth more to see. Megan loved looking at the simplicity of them compared to the landscape around them, but she always wished they could be better on the eyes instead of being so plain. Her eyes picked out her own. It was one of the only houses with all of the lights on, and cars surrounded it. Most of them were probably empty.
